This really hit me hard while listening to today's sermon. I wanted to share and get your opinion. It's a very simple question that triggers a very deep introspection.
When you think of salvation, do you think in terms of:
1. I received salvation FROM or
2. I received salvation FOR?
Is your belief in salvation, the beginning or end (of you spiritual walk)?

Hm, can you explain that a little bit more?
Sure. One of the central stronghold of Christianity is that we're saved. That, as long as we believe in God, He will save us from our sins. But is that it?
Knowing this truth causes a Christian to take two paths:
First is the "game over" or "cruise control" mode. Knowing that you are saved FROM sin, all you have to do is play nice until you die to collect your reward. In the meantime, just make sure to thank God, repent and tithe (not particularly in that order). This self-centered belief is what creates lukewarm Christians and hesitation to challenge oneself. Even worse, now that you're confident in your salvation, you use that as a license to commit whatever sins you want because through thick or thin, God still loves you and saved you FROM sin.
Second is the "motivational pep talk" mode.
Through salvation, you were saved FOR great works by God. That we are all representatives of God to share His message of love. It's not something a Christian can do by himself. It must be done to others. S/he needs to affect another person's life before the time is up or s/he loses the opportunity to share. The message was sent by God through Christ - through His disciples - through Christians to share with the world. God's message must be SENT. We, Christians, were saved and chosen FOR this important mission.
These were my thoughts during worship this past Sunday.
